My Family Book

Difficulty:

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Run the large back cover and the two smaller covers through the Xyron Creatopia with Fabric Refillz cartrdige. Remove the pieces from the paper and apply the fabric to the adhesive. I laid the fabric out on the table in front of me and centered the covers over each piece. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the fabric and use scissors to trim the excess fabric from the edges.
- Use the Xyron Creatopia Cutz and Cutz Cartridges to cut decorative mats. Use the Xyron Creatopia Border Patternz to emboss patterns into your cardstock.
- Run all the papers and cardstock through the Xyron Creatopia with the right sides facing up and apply to the inside of all the covers and the two pages. Use a blade to trim off any overhang then ink the edges of the fabric and the papers with the chalk ink or the ink and sponge.
- Punch holes in all the cover pieces and the pages. I set my blue Bind-It-All to “C” and punched one end of the chipboard, then flipped it around and punched from the other end. The holes lined up in the middle. I don’t own the pink machine, so you may want to test the alignment on that machine by punching holes in a spare piece of 6x6’ paper.
- Line up the covers and pages. Put the binding through all the punched holes and use the Bind-It-All to close the binding.
- Embellish the front cover of the book and add the knotted ribbons to the bindings. To make the ribbon flower on the front cover you will need a 12” piece of ribbon and the needle and thread. Run a stitch along one side of the ribbon and pull to gather. Tie the thread in a knot and arrange the ribbon so that the rough ends are hidden. Attach to the book using adhesive dots and add a button for the center.
- Tips: Ink the edges of any cardstock pieces before attaching. Tie thread or ribbon through the holes of chipboard pieces and buttons. Layer more than one embellishment (stickers and flowers, etc.) to add interest. Group embellishments in odd numbers. Pull inspiration for your embellishments from the papers and fabric. I used a lot of hearts because they are repeated a lot on the fabric on the covers.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cut the stabilizer 3 inches larger than the size of the machine embroidery hoop. One dimension cannot be wider than the width of the machine.
- Run the stabilizer thru the Xyron Creatopia with Fabric Adhesive cartridge.
- OPTION 1: Cut a template of the hoop, to be used out of Xyron’s cartridge liner removed from previous projects, by first drawing an outline of the center of the hoop on the cartridge liner then removing it. Cut out center. With the template on the bottom and the stabilizer on top, run the template/stabilizer sandwich thru the Xyron Creatopia machine. Remove the backing paper. Adhesive will be on the center of the stabilizer and will prevent adhesive from transferring to the hoop when the stabilizer is placed in the hoop.
- OPTION 2: After you run the stabilizer thru the Xyron Creatopia with the Fabric Adhesive, trace the inside of the hoop on the cartridge liner. Carefully cut the center portion of the cartridge liner leaving the cartridge liner on the outside of the stabilizer. Place the removed liner on the adhesive to prevent adhesive transferring to the hoop when you place the stabilizer in the hoop.
- Following manufacturer’s directions, place the stabilizer in the hoop with the adhesive side up. Remove the backing from the stabilizer inside the hoop.
- Center the area to be embroidered in the hoop using the markings on the fabric
- Beginning at the center of the hoop, gently press the fabric to the stabilizer being careful not to disturb the alignment of the vertical and horizontal centering. Smooth the fabric to the stabilizer. Fabric may be repositioned several times to insure proper design alignment
- FOR HIGH KNAPPED FABRICS such as terry cloth towels, cut a piece of water dissolvable stabilizer the size of the hoop. Run the stabilizer through Xyron Creatopia using the Fabric Adhesive cartridge. Once the fabric is centered in the hoop and secured to the stabilizer, remove the backing from the water dissolvable stabilizer and place adhesive side down on the fabric smoothing the stabilizer to the fabric. You will have a three layer sandwich: stabilizer, fabric, stabilizer,
- Stitch the design
- When the design is complete, remove the fabric/stabilizer sandwich from the hoop. Either tear away or cut away the excess stabilizer from the back / wash away from front of the design.

Floral Covered Fabric Album
Artist:
Elizabeth Bracco
Estimated Time:
1
Difficulty:
Intermediate-Difficult
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Run all fabric thru the Xyron Creatopia using the fabric adhesive. With the adhesive side up carefully remove the adhesive backing from both pieces of fabric to be used for the back cover.
- Overlap the larger piece of fabric onto the smaller piece of fabric by .5”. Lay the pieces of chipboard in the center of each fabric. There should be about 1/8” or ¼” gap between the two pieces of chipboard. This is how the book will open and close correctly.
- Fold fabric over chipboard and rub with the edge of the bone folder for a smooth finish. Take care to fold in corners first. Repeat for front cover.
- Cut two pieces of cardstock to cover the inside of the front and back covers. Run them thru the Xyron Creatopia using the permanent adhesive and adhere to inside front and back covers of book. OPTIONAL: Run the cut pieces of cardstock thru the Creatopia Patternz or Border Patternz to emboss a design before applying adhesive. This will add an extra decorative touch to your special book.
- Punch evenly spaced holes in the center of the front and back cover spine edges using the heavy duty hole punch. Cut your miscellaneous paper to fill the book to the size(s) you want and then line up with the holes in the cover and punch. Depending on the thickness of your book and type of paper you may need to repeat this step several times.
- After lining up all of your cover and paper edges thread the holes with ribbon to secure the book. Tie a bow to finish or knot the ribbon and tie beads to the end of ribbon. There are many ways to finish off your ribbon.
- Decorate cover as desired. Use the Xyron Creatopia to adhere all of your embellishments . It can handle items up to .5” in thickness. For small items use the Xyron 3/8" Adhesive Runner.

Growth Chart
Artist:
Elizabeth Bracco
Estimated Time:

Difficulty:
Beginner
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Wash and iron all fabrics according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Hand cut all pieces for the growth chart except for the tree top circles. You can use a fabric pencil to sketch out the clouds, tree trunk and ground onto the back of your fabric. Cut out and run shapes thru the Xyron Creatopia using the fabric adhesive cartridge.
- Run the 12” x 36” piece of natural quilt batting thru the Xyron Creatopia using the fabric adhesive cartridge. Center onto the back of one piece of the 13” x 37” light blue fabric. This is the light blue piece you will be appliquéing on.
- Place the ‘ground’ onto the bottom of the light blue fabric. Stitch along the top of the ‘ground’ only.
- Place the tree trunk onto the light blue fabric. The bottom of the tree trunk will overlap the ground fabric. Stitch both sides of the tree trunk.
- Using the Xyron Creatopia and a large circle die cut as many circles as you will need to fit your tree from the green fabric. Run the circles thru the Xyron Creatopia using the fabric adhesive cartridge. Arrange on light blue fabric and overlapping the tree trunk. Stitch around circles as shown in the sample.
- Apply clouds to the light blue fabric and stitch around edges.
- Using the 6” x 2” strips of light blue fabric fold right sides together and stitch. You will now have a 6” long tube. Turn and press the seam to the back. Fold in half with seam on the inside of fold pin to the front of the appliquéd light blue piece. Pin the second piece of light blue fabric to the appliquéd piece, right sides together. Stitch around edges, using a half inch seam allowance. Leave an opening at the bottom of the chart (under the ‘ground’. You will use this opening to turn the growth chart and then hand stitch the opening closed. Press.
- Use the Creatopia and dies to cut different shapes for the butterfly and owl. You can hand cut the kite shapes. Run foam pieces thru again using the Xyron Creatopia adhesive cartridge and adhere to chart.
- Use the Design Runner and the ruler accessory to print the height and date to add to the foam pieces. For the Owl nest, run a piece of light brown ribbon thru the Xyron 1.5" create-a-sticker and then cut it into small strips (before removing the adhesive backing paper.) After you have placed the owl onto the growth chart you will add the ribbon snips randomly overlapping each other to ‘build’ a nest.

Art Apron
Artist:
Elizabeth Bracco
Estimated Time:
1.5
Difficulty:
Difficult
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cut off top part of jeans to desired length of apron and cut off inside seam to open the ‘leg’ and let the fabric lie flat. Fold under the bottom edge of apron ½" and press. Fold under sides of apron ½”, press and stitch.
- Width of fabric will be 5”. Measure the width of the apron bottom and add half as much to determine length of fabric to cut. (example: apron is 10” in width, add another 5” to equal 15” in length to be cut from fabric.) Press a length of cotton ribbon in half (so it will be 2.5” in width by your length) wrong sides together. Sew the open edges together using a baste stitch on your machine using a normal seam allowance. Leave enough thread at both ends of the fabric to gather the fabric to the exact length of the apron bottom. After gathering fabric secure thread. With the fabric under the bottom of the apron line up the bottom edge of the apron and the stitch line of the fabric and sew close to the bottom of the apron.
- Run ric ric thru the Xyron Creatopia and position onto bottom of apron covering the stitches you made secure the ruffle to the apron. After ric rac is in desired position stitch in place.
- Use the same measuring technique as done above and cut the fabric for the tie around the top of the apron. The width of this fabric will be 6”. Fold in half wrong sides together and press (should now be 3 " in width.) Open and press under all edges under ¼ ". Run thru the Xyron Creatopia and gently remove the adhesive backing from fabric. With fabric open center the apron onto the fabric. Gently fold the fabric together, using the pressed folds as your guides, and stitch sides and bottom edges of fabric to finish.
- Decorate pocket on apron with stitched on ribbon, beads and buttons to make the word ART. You can make this initials or other design if you like.
- Take a rectangle piece of jean fabric cut to size that will fit your apron. Press under all sides ¼ inch and stitch.
- Cut ribbon and/or ric rac to length of pocket and run thru the Creatopia. Remove adhesive backing and place on pocket every 1/2”. Position pocket onto apron and stitch sides and bottom to apron. Leave top open. Stitch down the center of the ribbon and/or ric rac from top to bottom of pocket.
