Hello, I need some help with the software that came with my wishblade.  I used the wishblade without the create and cut + software but when I installed the software and tried to use it, it says "error or cannot open port" in the status box.  I have looked at my computer control panel and the wishblade is listed in the printers window...but I cannot figure out how to make my computer recongnize the wishblade...any suggestions?  I have tried to read the help info but have not been able to find a solution to my problem. (help is not very user friendly) It would be nice to be able to use the new software since the tutorials enclosed are for that software.

Thanks for your help...I really want to use my new toy!

Make sure that your Wishblade is plugged directly into your computer and you are NOT using a USB HUB. This includes keyboard USB connections as they are typically a hub as well.

Also, try to physically change your USB to a different plug in on your computer. If you have a printer plugged into the computer as well, unplug it via USB, and plug your Wishblade in that USB port. Then go through the steps to change the port.

Are you using Virus or Firewall Software? - If so make Create and Cut AND Production Manager EXCEPTIONs to your Firewall and Virus Protection.

If you are getting an error message in Production Manager saying "cannot open port" follow the instructions:

1. Make sure your USB cable is plugged directly into the back of your computer and not into a USB hub or keyboard connection.

2. Plug a printer or other USB device into the back of your computer as well and turn it on during this process.

3. Make sure your Wishblade is plugged in and turned on.

4. In Production Manager on the left side it lists the setups, (i.e.: Wishblade@graphtecUSB or other) if you have installed the software multiple times without removing it with the uninstall utility you may have multiple setups. Delete all setups by clicking on them to highlight and pressing your delete key. When the last one is deleted it will prompt you to add a new setup. Follow the instructions on screen to add a new setup.

5. Load Create and Cut. Go to FILE and choose NEW. Draw an rectangle of other shape (from the left toolbar) Then go to the FILE menu again and choose Cut Plot. Load paper on the cutting mat and insert it in the machine. Press the SEND button.

If you are still getting the "cannot open port error " follow the instructions in  the pdf file that was forwarded to you after posting this reply to change the port. Note: you may have to try all available ports before you find one that works. Please let me know if I can help you further.

Thanks for your response.  Unfortunately this isn't new information- I have always had to go through these steps.  The problem is when I try to change the port graphtecUSB is the only choice.  What else can I do?

Still trying to cut.  I will call tech support tomorrow and hope that someone can answer my question and not just cut and paste the same directions that are all over these forums.  There is no other choice but graphtecusb when I follow directions to change ports.

There was a reported bug in one of the recent updates of Windows 7 that effect your ports and makes them disappear. We are working to resolve it from our end but Microsoft as posted some workarounds. The best resource I have found so far is the following link, start with Method 1 ignore the beginning of the post:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-lost-usb-ports-and-other-problems-with/0e1ae59f-ec8c-402d-9b41-f1340bdee5f3

Keep in mind these are Microsoft Windows issues, apparently this is happening in all versions from XP to Windows 7, and we are not responsible for any additional problems their fix may cause.

I always recommend backing up your computer before doing any major changes to your Operating System.

Please post here and let us know if you have had any luck as we have not been able to replicate the problem on our end or reply to our emails.

Still unanble to cut.  Received a voicemail from software designer company.  Spent quite a bit of time on hold, only to get in line to leave a voicemail.  Dwight returned my call just now, told me it was past his work day but could possibly help  me quickly if I explained problem.  I gave him a brief synopsis only to have him ask me why was I calling them in the first place, he couldn't connect why I was calling him for help with a xyron product or how I had even gotten the phone number.  I explained I wasn't seeking his company out- but returning a phone call.  At any rate Dwight was of no help what so ever.  Still unable to use the wishblade since Aug 11.  I just tried calling customer service only to be told that you worked for a different company and I needed to call the tech support number.  Which I did and of course didn't get to speak to a person but left a message.  At this point I cannot believe I have spent this much time on anything short of solving world hunger or curing cancer.
