Not cutting through regular scrapbook paper

My mother has given me a pink wishblade that she bought new and only used on about 10-12 sheets of mylar paper.  I am trying it for the first time on just regular scrapbook paper,  not even cardstock and it just isn't cutting through the paper.  I have used the pink lid.  How quickly do these things go through blades and it is barely even indenting the paper at all... any suggestions?

Paula,

First check to make sure that your blade is not gunked with previously cut material.

Second, check to make sure you are telling the cutter the type of paper you are using if you are in WB.

Third, if you are using CnC set the number of passes to 2 and use the blue cap if it is paperweight.

If it is light weight cardstock use the yellow cap. For Bazzil weight use the pink cap.

Fourth, check your cutting speed and make sure you are sending the cright color to cut.

HTH,

Great comments Vee.  In addition to what Vee mentioned, you should check your force.  If you have an earlier version of Create and Cut you may have to adjust the force to 3 (from its default 2).  By default you always want your force at 3 and your speed at 7.

To make this change in Create and Cut, from the Cut/Plot menu (this is the menu that shows up when you try to cut) select the Options Tab.  From there you will see an Edit button.  Click this to bring up a new dialog box where you can adjust the settings stated above.

Hope this helps!

Great sugestions but... one more very important thing you guys missed - With Pink Wishblade's make sure when you place the blade in the blade housing that the notch on the top of the blade is in the 3:00 (90 degree) position and NOT facing forward. The only time you want to set the notch forward is if you are cutting fine materials like vinyl.

However, if she was cutting very thick mylar paper it could have dulled the blade. You may wish to change the blade too. Also make sure the Wishblade and cutting mat are clean.

I have tried the following now without any change in quality of cut:

  1. the blade is not gunked up
  2. I am using the yellow cap
  3. sending it as one color
  4. speed set to 4 (also tried at 7)
  5. force set to 3
  6. blade at 3 o'clock

Guess I'll order a new blade

New blade and still no change.   I am so frustrated with this. I had such high hopes of the beautiful cards I could make with it.  Is there anywhere that repairs these?
