Blade Housing Broke

Hi there,

I'm Kelly, and am not based in the U.S. which is why I am opting to write here instead of calling the hotline directly. Hopefully someone can get back to me on this, thanks!

I'm writing as a proud owner of the Pink Wishblade, and have found it to be so indispensable in my crafting projects. However, I was dismayed when two days ago my blade housing broke. I was unscrewing my pink cap to put on a yellow cap, and the black grooved part (where the cap screws on to) broke in half. I can swear by all the saints that I did not use any inordinate amount of force-- it was just a regular cap switch which I've performed MANY times since my purchase without anything happening.

I only purchased my cutter in April of this year, so I am extremely disappointed that a part has broken (and definitely not through rough usage) in 5 months! Is there something Xyron can do about this? How long do warranties last for, and how would I go about getting my blade replaced?

I would very much appreciate the Xyron customer service team's help on this-- thanks in advance!

Best,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

With the Wishblade, you will need to replace blades due to normal usage. There are several signs to look for that let you know it's time to replace your blade:

  1. It no longer cuts completely through paper or cardstock that you did not have difficulty cutting in the past. (Make sure you first check all pressure settings and that the blade is fully engaged in the housing)
  2. When you are cutting and notice tearing, its usually more noticeable on one side versus the other.
  3. You notice visible damage to the blade or blade caps.

The part we call the Blade housing - is the Black part that goes around your blade that is permanently connected to your Wishblade and locks in place by turning the blue knob. The blade housing does not come out with the blade. All permanent parts of the Wishblade are subject to our 1 year warranty. So if something  is wrong with the blade housing it falls under that warranty.

However, the blade consists of the blade caps, the blade itself, and the black cylinder-ish area that holds the blade together. When you purchase a new blade the entire piece is replaced. The blade is not warranted for 1 year as normally they need to be replaced regularly, dependent on usage. This is also true for cutting mats and the black cutting strip inside the Wishblade.

I'm pretty dependent on my Wishblade and if it stops working for whatever reason I also get upset. One of the things I keep on hand at all times is an extra blade and cutting mat. If I use the extra I automatically order a new one so my Wishblade never goes down.

Hope this helps.
